Formations (2023)

Formations is a photographic series exploring movement, memory, and perception through the lens of natural phenomena. Photographed along the rugged cliff portions of the South Bay region of Los Angeles, the work examines the dynamic interaction between light, water, form and ecology, translating fleeting moments of motion into sustained visual meditation.

The series is informed by early experiences on school field trips, which often felt transportive—brief departures from neighborhoods and realities distant from these verdant coasts. These journeys shaped an acute awareness of contrast, anticipation, and the act of observing beauty that is at once distant and immediate.

Each photograph isolates gestures and silhouettes within luminous seascapes, inviting reflection on how perception and memory shape our encounter with the natural world. Through Formations, the ephemeral becomes enduring: the leap of a dolphin, the clarity of ocean light, and the subtle orchestration of movement are rendered as visual investigations into wonder, attention, and the poetics of observation.
