Benches (2022) is an integral part of my Chinatown Reverie series, a heartfelt love letter and ongoing tribute to the vibrant neighborhood where my family and I first settled as immigrants from Hong Kong. A pair of empty benches became a perfect canvas, capturing still-life memories during the intense peaks and uncertain throes of the pandemic. The striking contrast of bold reds and golden yellows beautifully epitomizes the colors of my childhood and the vivid nostalgia that accompanies those memories. I cannot imagine my roots without the rich cultural tapestry and enduring spirit of Chinatown Los Angeles.
